Dew

It’s definitely changing…

Morning dew on Aquilegia seedlings…

Still no rain, we were promised some on Friday/Saturday...

Ok, so I lied, we had a sprinkle earlier, perhaps 10 drops on my top as I went next door to give my neighbours some spare Tomatoes and chatted for 10 minutes.

I took photos earlier of how large the gap is between my soil and the wall now as it contracts with no water... I'd estimate at around 2cm.

The grass at the edge of the lawn is dead... The hedge is drinking up all the water that's left...

I hear we're supposed to have frosts soon??

Hi Liz....you have grass. lucky you. I have hay or possibly straw....and green, what is green.....

Our ditches are bone dry and the pond next door is empty....fortunately she does not keep fish, they would be in that great pond in the sky if she did....

We are supposed to have rain Tuesday but I will believe it when it happens.....

Hope that you received the seeds that I sent.....

Hi Cheryl, I have half-dead grass at the moment, lots of yellow in it with a metre wide strip of dead grass along the edge...

Indeed, I hear lots of rain Tues/Wed, if it is lots then it's probably the first time since July (yes we've had rain since, but not lots)

And yet people still moan about how bad the Summer's been! They make me so angry!!!!

I did receive the seeds thank you very much! I harvested yours a couple of days ago - the Black Hollyhocks are finally ready and will try to get them posted in the next few days (assuming postal strikes aren't a problem in your area?)

Lovely photos again Liz, the leaves with the dewdrops look so pretty.

I think that frost you mentioned may be very soon, it is very chilly here this evening!

What amazing photos. Your close-ups show the beauty of plants and their surrounds in such wonderful detail.
Thank you!

Temperatures dipping here in Northern California, but no frost yet. I will see roses blooming in my small town in the coming weeks, but my garden is low and contained: it embraces the cold night air to the detriment of tender plants. Today I'll bring containers up onto my small back porch to protect them through the coming months.
Your beautiful photos provide a respite from the garden chores! Cheers, Alice

Hi Jan, it was very chilly here this morning! I really should have picked up my scarf and put on my thicker coat... No sign of frost though, morning dew yes, so unless frost had melted by the time I set out.

I'm sure it's not far away though! :)

Hi Azplantlady, thank you so much :)

The dew didn't last long as the heat from my body and the sun quickly evaporated it... The photos were actually taken a few weeks ago...

Hi Alice, how cold does it get in Northern CA? I don't imagine too cold... Mind, it's not far from Seattle is it?? (by not too far I mean 1000's of miles, you can't expect me to know the US mile by mile) Hmmm Rocky mountains?? Or are they too far east?

Am I completely making a fool of myself and my lack of US knowledge??? Ha ha, well, I think I did quite well, anyway...

Some of my Roses are still flowering in the front garden, I won't dead head them any further to ensure they're dormant for winter...

I'm a little worried about my tomatoes at the moment, with the threat of frosts especially. Last night I was out at 11pm bringing in any semi ripe tomatoes for them to finish ripening in the window. They're on our decking near the house so should be safe from frost for a good while yet with the house keeping them warm. *fingers crossed*
