Thinking of Spring

Yes peoples, it's that time of the year where our thoughts start turning towards Spring… My bulbs have arrived and now I need to get to work...

This also means the heavier landscaping work on the garden can soon begin, I’ve been holding off planting some Pulmonaria, Ferns and Geraniums under the cherry tree so that I could get them all planted together and hopefully not forget where the bulbs are. I ordered 100 anemone bulbs which I hope will bring some much needed colour to the shady area in the Spring…

Now I just have to hope I don’t accidentally dig up some Dicentra and Toad lilies I planted in April/May.

I’ll be removing the Photinia at the same time to open the area up a little because it’s casting too much shade – and stops me from cutting the hedge! As I try to keep everything wildlife friendly, I just feel it’s taking up too much room and giving practically nothing back. So I may replace it with something like a Skimmia or Witch hazel for Spring colour/Perfume/Food for early pollinators.

For the rest of the garden I ordered:

X100 Galanthus - Nivalis Single
X10 Allium Aflatunense
X 50 Tulip Turkestanica
X 50 Iris Reticulata 'Pauline'
X100 Crocus Chrysanthus Cream Beauty
X100 Crocus Biflorus Miss Vain
X10 Allium Purple Sensation

No photos, sorry. Not getting home until 6-8pm has left me with very little time for the past couple of weeks. It's induction week next week, students are flooding into the city for both Universities and there's no way I'm going anywhere near the city centre for a while other than into Uni. It's madness!

It sounds like your spring garden will be fabulous! I look forward to seeing it. Fall is a busy time for me too. I love all the garden chores that get me outside in the garden. My mind is whirling with projects I want to do.

Liz, I am so impressed ... I am only just ordering my spring bulbs. Busy though you may be, you are way ahead of the game compared to me. I can't wait to see pictures of your new projects. Pam x

Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons. So cool to think you're entering Spring and my garden... just a hint of Fall!

That's a nice list of bulbs - it's so much fun to plan for a colorful spring in the last warmth of fall. Too many rodents here to trust crocuses, but I am adding to the camassia and daffodil plantings.

Hi Liz,
I'm not to the point I'm thinking much about spring, because I haven't quite accepted it's about to be fall.

It sounds like you will have lots of color come spring.

Thanks for your nice comment on my butterflies and such for Camera Critters.

Hi Debs,

I know how you feel, the only problem is at the moment the weather isn't as good as it usually is in September, so it may have to wait until Spring before I manage to do anything (I will plant the bulbs though!)

Hi Pam,

I did get my order in nice and early this year... Last year I left it too late and had difficult actually planting the bulbs because the ground was becoming too hard :)

Of course I'll still procrastinate though and they'll probably get planted at exactly the same time!

Hi Meredehuit,

It's just turning to Autumn here too, some of our leaves are starting to turn and the flowers are beginning to finish. Such a shame, but pretty at the same time.

Hi Cyndy,

I may have the bulbs... Just I have no idea where or how I'll plant them though :) ha ha, so typically me.

Hi Liz,

It is hard to believe Autumn is coming, but officially it's here tomorrow! Arghhhh. I'm hoping our winter isn't as bad as last years, I don't think I could cope with that again. But the way Summer has gone and Autumn so far, it wouldn't surprise me if we're in for another rough one.

So wonderfully organised :) Your Spring garden should look beautiful. I'm always full of good intentions but not always so good at carrying them out!
