Do you ever look through old photos and discover many beautiful images you can’t for the life of you work out why you never posted/used them??
I had a clear out of old images today and discovered folders of wonderful photos from summer that I don’t think I ever blogged!
Madness I tell you, madness!
Then of course you come across photos of your garden and are taken aback by how different everything looks, you cannot believe how much things have grown since they were taken just in the space of a couple of months…

Of course now all I’ve succeeded in doing is making me yearn for Summer again!
Just a few months to go and Winter will be a distant memory, one I hope not to experience for another 30 years...

These blow me away! I wish I could get my slr to take pics like this--it's either me, or my cheap lens. Or both.
These are just gorgeous... thanks for sharing them - role on warmer days :-) Miranda
Liz....I am going back to view them all again...absolutely stunning. Do not be modest, these are really fabulous.
I love the hoverfly.....I became quite obsessed with them during 2009. I am planning to provide them with many blooms this year. I try to concentrate on a specific insect each time I replant.....this year, is the year of the hoverfly.
My garden is white, way too white for my liking......
Excellent photos Liz - I'm well impressed! It's making me think that I perhaps should have upgraded to an slr when I replaced my camera in Autumn ..... mind you, it doesn't mean it'd automatically improve my photo taking abilities up to your level! :)
Lovely I am so pleased you had a rumage through old photos.
Hi Benjamin,
Thank you for visiting my blog and I'm glad you enjoyed the photos :)
Try playing around with the settings on your camera, I am sure you will soon work out how to take similar photos... It does also depend on the lens to some extent but you should be able to get close!
Hi Miranda,
Thanks for viewing them :)
Today has been lovely and sunny here, nice enough to walk home (and get blinded by the low sun in the process.........) and I had a little wander around the garden. Lots of the bulbs are coming up nicely now...
Hi Cheryl,
Modesty is my middle name, I am yet to learn the art of blowing ones own trumpet... This is why I decided the world of design/freelancing was not for me!
Thank you for the lovely compliment though, it's much appreciated :)
I find Hoverflies adore californian poppies, but I did have a lot of them around the garden on almost everything last summer... The Cosmos, sea holly, aster, strawberries and scabious were also magnets!
Well, I'm glad that you found them. Those are beautiful. I love the seed heads.
Hi Liz,
Thank you, glad you liked them :)
Does your current camera allow you to play around with the manual settings? You may be able to take some similar shots - just not quite the same, depending on the lens it has...
Email me if you want help!
Hi Joanne,
:) I needed to delete lots of images off my laptop, it's getting full and even though I have an external Harddrive, it seems rather stupid to keep so many thousands of photos for little reason.
Wonderful, simply wonderful. jim
Exceptional pictures, I am especially drawn to the elder flowers. ~Rebecca
Just superb. Now i am also thinking of exploring my old folders having some unused pics. I loved your post.
The hover fly, the hover fly! Then stamens and the dandelion (type thing)!
Lovely. Mega lovely.
Lucy
Lovely photos Liz! Ah Summer! Yes please :)
Great idea to go through old photos! I looked through some last night when the server went off. The biggest thought I had was that the present garden needs some pruning done. It was a reminder of what I already knew.
I forget how lovely spring can be when I'm looking out at the winter scene. Cold weather gives us an opportunity to prepare for spring.
I located the manual for my present camera this morning. It has settings I wasn't aware. While I wait for the snow, I'll be learning more about it.
wow Liz these are fantastic photos - I really enjoyed looking through them a couple of times - now I would like to be able to take pictures like this.
I enjoyed your photos as always. For some reason this is the second blog in a row I've read with a fly theme! Is that a new garden trend? LOL
Hi Jim,
Thanks, I'm thrilled you enjoyed the photos :D
Hi Rebecca,
Thank you, the Elder flowers are very pretty... Perhaps this year I will have a go at making some elderflower juice...
Hmmmm we'll see, it would be lovely though!!
Hi Muhammad,
Thanks :)
Clearing out photos can be therapeutic... I do sometimes wonder whether I should simply delete everything because I'm just keeping images for no reason!
Hi Lucy,
Lol, thanks! I cannot wait for everything to get going again, I do miss the Bees and Hoverflies...
I miss sitting outside and hearing them buzzing away :)
Hi Jan,
Yes, summer would be very much appreciated round about now!
I've noticed a significant differece in the light levels recently, the sun is beginning to hit the garden again.
Hi Nell,
It's amazing how different everything looks once the snow disappears... Or more interestingly it's amazing how quickly you get used to a carpet of white!
Good luck playing with your camera, does it allow full manual modes? If so I would have a play around with them and see what you can produce :)
Hi Rosie,
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the photos!
I hope there will be plenty more to come, especially as the borders mature...
Hmm that reminds me, I should've been digging the turf up this weekend for the new border. Mmmm I got sidetracked!
Hi Barbara,
I like Hoverflies, they're quite cute... Although you won't catch me taking shots of a Bluebottle or Horsefly... Hmmm I guess I may occasionally snap them, but I don't go out of my way to try!
these are stunning, and with all the grey skies here, it is lovely to take a trip with you. Helen (www.happinesskindled.blogspot.com)
Great collection, again, Liz.
I really love those bookeh photos; a style for which I love visiting your blog. Sets you apart, I think.
