They haven’t left us, quite yet…

Yesterday the warm thing in the sky returned… Over the past couple of weeks the weather has been teasing us with a day of sun and fine weather, and then a day of miserable persistent drizzle, sometimes turning heavy.

And today, the sun brought with it plenty of insect folk. I was surprised they had survived yesterday’s lashings… and even more surprised to see Butterflies and even moths flying in full daylight.

The Ladies continue to roam

Speckled Wood Butterfly

A Comma Butterfly landed right in front of me

Some type of moth…

What’s this? A cloudless sky?? Well well, I haven’t seen one of those in a long time. Oh yes, and there’s a Bee on the Aster :)

And finally, the Admiral stopped by, teasing me, daring me to take shots.

Hi Liz - if it's any consolation we've hardly seen the sun here in about 10 days now - just rain rain rain... and the grass is growing by the day! HELP! It's great to see the butterflies still around - and as yet no frost here either.

Love the photos... Miranda x

Hi Liz, that comma looks as though it is fresh out....beautiful condition. Your garden looks like a mini wildlife haven. It is just amazing how insects survive all that nature throws at it.

Glad you have some sunshine around. We have torrential rain.
The scaffolders are working in the rain, actually feel quite sorry for them. We are having kent peg tiles put on the roof....at last we will get it back to its original form.

Happy October to you.....

We're getting our first real taste of fall this week. It's good to see your butterflies are still around, and the Admiral is most handsome!

What a feast of colors - that admiral on your beautiful asters, my favorite fall flower.

How lovely, it still looks like Summer there! I haven't seen a butterfly for weeks :( That is a lovely fresh looking Red Admiral.

Yep, crazy weather - and I felt a right idiot bubble-wrapping the greenhouse the other day in bright sunshine and 17C... Lovely wildlife - and photos, as ever.

Hi Miranda,

I mowed the grass on Tuesday, I took it while I could... It was still too damp so the blade wasn't doing a very good job but I had to do it whilst I had the chance with the weather being too unpredictable.
We're due fine weather for the next few days I believe - well into the weekend...

Hi Cheryl,

I hope the Butterflies are managing to survive elsewhere too, because it's no good only my garden serving food for them, a tiny island in a vast sea of 'unfriendly' gardens.
There are areas of wildlife flowering not far from here, and I suspect they have helped a lot!

Your poor scaffolders... well, that's what you're paying them for I guess. To work no matter what the weather, and they do earn a lot for it!

Hi CV,

Autumn seems to be strange this year, the majority of trees around here still seem to be green, but in the city centre they're all turning colour! Most surprising considering it's warmer in the centre.

Hi Barbara,

Thank you very much. I seem to be collecting Asters at the moment and perhaps have gone a little overboard, but they are so good in an otherwise empty garden.

Hi Jan,

Indeed, both Comma and Red Admiral look very fresh, especially considering the rain and winds we had recently.

Hopefully they will be with us a little longer yet.

Hi Janet,

Hopefully the weather will stay nice for the next few weeks... I know it's too much to expect it to last until November, it never does!

Dear Liz, I am happy to say they haven't left us either, though I see less butterflies each day. Great photos. Pam x

What cheerful pink asters! We're grey and rainy today, but if the sun comes out a few bees will show their faces. Enjoy the autumn.

No they haven't quite left us, I was out shooting today and the bees were buzzing! Wonderful images as always.
