The Bounty!!!

It finally arrived!! Woo hoo, so excited. The courier even waited for me to get home before arriving… Was surprised to hear a knock at the door at almost 5pm, I guess some really do work past lunchtime!

Three boxes in total would you believe?

The Gerbils/Jirds are going to have plenty of cardboard to chew; free shredders right here!

Funny how when you take them out of the over-sized boxes, suddenly there doesn’t seem to be much left…

Whose toe is that???

My brother just can’t help get in on the action… You don’t want to know what poses he was pulling behind the grass!

Ok, so what do I have there??

4x Dierama*
3x Aster umbellatus
2x Pheasant's Tail Grass
1x Pheasant's Grass
2x Coreopsis 'moonbeam'
1x Sweet Box 'purple stem'

* Do you realise how expensive these are now?? They've shot up in price, the rest will have to be grown from seed...

With any luck I can get digging this weekend, right after I've bought all the compost/topsoil though.

Hmmmm, I want to play now!!!!!

  2. I know people lost dieramas last winter due to the extreme cold so maybe the same has happened this year and thats why the price has gone up. I have some growing from seed butyou do have to be very patient

  4. I can feel your excitement lol. I know I'll be the same in a couple of months :D

(And I really would have liked to see the faces your brother was pulling behind the plants :D )

  5. That sounds like an exciting delivery. My dieramas *appear* to have made it through the bad weather. PG is right about having patience growing them from seed!

  6. How exciting - I must admit I just love buying plants... a bit like putting a child in a sweety shop!! ;-) Enjoy the fun! Miranda

  7. I think I might turn into a Bounty Hunter and come in search of your goodies ...those grasses look gorgeous! :)

How are you going to last until the weekend and what are you going to do if more snow arrives?!

(I've had 2 days back at work, am taking it carefully but am shattered - but at least it's half term next week, so I get the week off!)

  8. Hi Anna,

Thanks! I hope it's ok too, but I fear the cold weather will continue... So I will have yet another week to wait!

  9. Hi Helen,

Thanks for the info re: Dierama's!
My mature plant is fine, but I can imagine young plants having difficulty in all this snow and extended frost.

I hear they take a good few years to flower, is that correct? I wish I had sown them in late Summer now...

  10. Hi Karen,

Thank you, I cannot wait to see them mature, the next year or two cannot come fast enough :)

  11. Hi Kyna,

Who'd have thought we can get so excited over plants?

I imagine the courier was expecting an old lady when he delivered the plants... ha ha!

Honest, you don't want to see the faces my brother was pulling! Let's just say, he was trying to be seductive!

  12. Hi HM,

Glad to hear your Dierama's have survived too :)

I'm kicking myself that I didn't sow some in late summer now, I could've had a good few months growth by now! Grrrr.

  13. Hi Miranda,

I'm the same! Although buying sweeties can sometimes be a little too exciting, especially when you find an old style sweet shop with the jars!!!

    :)

  14. Hi Liz,

Muahahaha, I'll be on the lookout for someone stalking around trying to steal my pretty grass!

A little concerned the pheasant's tail grass is the wrong colours to go with my plants... But we'll see!

So far all I'm doing at work is daydreaming of being home and getting out into the garden. Not that I could do much without the compost and top soil.
Looks like I'll have a while to wait before I manage to get them in, perhaps that's a good thing - being sheltered from the cold...

Lucky you having half term... Glad to hear you're taking it slowly, no good pushing yourself and getting even worse. Too many times I've done that and finished off in a worse place.

  15. It's such a happy day when plants arrive in the mail! I've got a few on the way and can't wait, though I'll have to, since spring is a long time away here.

  16. No way! You're planting now?!?!? In Feb? Wow that is so great. You'll love the moonbeam coreopsis - it is so cheerful all summer long. Thanks for visiting snowy Philadelphia via my site. Kelly

  17. Hi VW,

I was far too excited when they arrived, my brother and I actually jumped around... Ok so we were being a little childish considering he isn't in the least interested in gardening!

Spring... Hmmm I think it's still a distance here too, we're back to cold weather and strange snow blizzards, bright sunshine and clear skies, then blizzards... Very strange, but at least it isn't settling.

  18. Hi Kelly,

Thanks for also visiting my blog! :)

I am not planting quite yet, but do plan on doing so in the next few weeks with any luck. I do have the first week in March off, so if not before then hopefully definitely during that week.

Some of the plants I have bought recently already have fresh growth, so they must think it's time for planting, at least!

  20. Great delivery, Liz. Christmas come again?
Think that this weekend you might have to dig snow, if you insist on getting some exercise in.

Well, at least your brother did get his foot in(to the picture)

  21. Liz....dierama? So expensive. Will you wait till the weather settles down a little before you put them out??
I have planted up the seeds you sent me last year and have my fingers crossed with these.....

I can so understand your excitement. Of course you want to plant now, don't we all.
I cannot wait till summer to see your babies bloom.......

I don't do toes......just don't like them for some reason......

  22. Hi Rebecca,

Thanks, I cannot wait to see them all mature into a wonderful, magical border... My patience is wearing thin!

  23. Hi Yoke,

Yes I do believe it's Christmas again... Actually this is better than Christmas if I'm honest! ha ha.

I have a week off in early March and hope to get the work done then instead... I need to get the compost before I can do anything really... I do not want to dig the turf up only to have cats/fox use it as a toilet!

  24. Hi Cheryl,

Yes I will be waiting before I plant anything... I'm especially nervous of the Dierama's as others have said people have lost theirs over winter.
My mature plant looks ok, but these 4 new ones do not look good and I cannot see any signs of new growth on them at all. I'll keep a close eye for anything.

I can understand your foot fear, my best friend's brother had quite phobia and he and his sister would tease their brother with bare feet!
